Steve Adams, CPA, Founding Partner
Steve is the founding and managing partner of Adams & Petersen, CPAs LLC. He has been in public accounting since 1987. He graduated from Weber State in 1988 and has extensive expertise in the areas of auditing, accounting, consulting and taxation. While at Weber State, he was heavily involved in many areas of student government, legal and political issues impacting the school at the student level, including being appointed as the school’s Supreme Court Chief Justice. He also took third place in a state-wide business law competition during his senior year.
For the first 10 years of his career, Steve worked for a large, local CPA firm in Salt Lake City. Following his time there, he founded his own CPA firm which has since become one of the largest CPA firms in Davis County, and was one of 3 finalists nominated for Davis Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year for 2017.
Steve’s professional background and experience as a CPA includes working with businesses in all areas of the construction, retail, wholesale, manufacturing, fabrication, outside-sales, distribution, medical, dental, legal, professional services, franchising, development, real estate, natural resources, multi-level marketing, trucking, transportation and software industries. He recently appealed a specific audit position and personally provided information in a non-formal hearing directly to the commissioners of the Utah State Tax Commission involving the Tax Commission’s state-wide practice of auditing and assessing sales tax on certain automated car wash transactions, resulting in the complete abandonment of the State’s ability to continue to audit and assess sales tax on those transactions. He works extensively with companies to provide them with help in financial statement audits, reviews, and compilations, corporate and individual taxation issues, internal control procedures, forensic accounting, fraud detection techniques, estate planning, like-kind exchanges, strategic planning, the purchase and sale of business entities, and overall business consulting. In addition, he is highly experienced with divorce income/tax situations as well as trust case matters. He has and continues to work as trustee for several cases.
Steve is a long time member of the AICPA and UACPA and is also a member of the Utah Manufacturers Association. Steve has been actively involved in the Davis Chamber of Commerce and has performed Non-Profit consulting, accounting, tax reporting and advisory services to them since 1997. Years ago, Steve was instrumental in working through the Non-Profit taxation applications, accounting and filing processes needed to transition the previously known Layton Chamber of Commerce into the formation of the new Davis Chamber of Commerce. This transition allowed the Davis Chamber to attract many new businesses and experience huge growth and expansion encompassing all of Davis County.
Steve enjoys serving his community and does so in many capacities including within his Church and Boy Scouts of America. He was also one of the founding members of a Non-Profit network marketing group which donated thousands of dollars throughout the years to homeless and needy families in Davis County; he has also served on Board of Directors for several Non-Profit organizations in the past.
Steve’s life away from the office includes spending time with his wife Christie and their four children. He enjoys distance and mountain trail running and has completed three marathons. He also likes riding his Harley motorcycle, weight lifting, hiking, camping, boating, basketball, coin collecting, reading and martial arts.
