Thomas Burton, CPA

Tax Manager
Thomas Burton, CPA, is one of our tax management leadership team—smart, steady, and always ready to dive into the details. He’s a proud graduate of Weber State University, where he started out knowing he wanted to go into business… but it was that first accounting class that really sparked something. Turns out, he liked it so much he never looked back.
While still in school, Thomas landed a job as a staff accountant and quickly found his groove in the tax world. These days, he’s not only a go-to for tax strategy and planning but also plays a key role in A+P’s cost segregation services—helping clients take advantage of often-overlooked tax opportunities with real impact. He works closely with construction contractors and medical professionals, helping them navigate complex tax situations and plan more strategically for the future.
One of his favorite parts of the job is helping people actually understand their tax position. For Thomas, communication is the most important tool an accountant can have. “You can teach someone accounting,” he says, “but learning how to communicate—that’s the real challenge.” He brings that skill to every client conversation.
Thomas also knows how to work hard and play hard—literally. He was the mastermind behind Tax Madness Day here at A+P: a fun, full-on challenge to get over 100 returns out the door in one day, complete with bingo, food, and plenty of energy to keep the team moving toward the goal. It’s become one of our most anticipated (and productive) days of tax season.
When the deadline dust settles, you’ll likely find Thomas outside chasing one of his big personal goals: climbing the highest peaks in all 50 states. He and his wife, Candice, are parents to four redheads who keep them on their toes. When he’s not on a field or a mountain, he’s probably playing board games, coaching his son’s soccer team, or off on a family getaway.
Thoughtful, outdoorsy, and dialed into the details, Thomas makes tax planning feel a little more human—and a lot more fun.
